DAY 1

ARRIVAL

From Santander or Bilabo airport we get back to our base in Cantabria to Suances. Summer tourist center and surfer paradise. First night we stay in a marvelous local surfhouse where we have enough time and space to mount the bicycles. The surfhouse has six-bed sleeping rooms. So if you do not feel comfortable with this you can stay a night in one of the local hotels. After little briefing you can relax, enjoy ride around the coastline, or visit neighbour medieval village Santillana del Mar.

 

DAY 2

Nº 1 – VALLES PASIEGOS

Distance: 39 km | Ascent: 1.100m | Descent: 1.380m | 90% Mountain trail

In the morning a 40 min transfer by our van brings you to the deep heart of Cantabria where you start to pedal. You pass through Selaya y Vega de Pas a territory of the ”Pasiegos” region, one of the most beautiful spots in Cantabria, in northern Spain. Going deep into the Pas valleys you can meet local traditions and customs that have remained strong despite the passage of time such a pruduction of famous sobaos. This district is surrounded by green valleys with the perfect pastures for the cows that provide the milk used to prepare these lovely cakes. Supported by Protected Geographical Indication, this unique product will guide us along our route.

DAY 3

Nº 2 – CANYON OF EBRO

Distance: 40km | Ascent: 903m | Descent 903m | 100% Mountain Trail

In the morning our van brings you to the southern tip of Cantabria on the border with the neighbouring province of Burgos. You descend into the canyon of the river Ebro – the second largest river in Spain which also springs in Cantabria – where you submerge to the bottom of Karst shaped scenery. After finishing this route you will be transfered by van to Cervera de Pisuerga ( Palencia province) where we spend the afternoon with a relaxing spa, enjoying the easy-going atmosphere of this village and overnight stay.

 

DAY 4

Nº 3 – PALENTINIAN MOUNTAINS & POTES

Distance: 47km | Ascent: 1.083m | Descent: 1.868m | 80% Mountain Trail

The best is yet to come as return to Cantabria via the mountains. Leaving Cervera behind you start a climb of 1.800 m. Passing through a long and lonely valley of Pineda with its sheep farms and 2.500 meter high peaks you can feel the still remaining wilderness of this area. What goes up must go down so after reaching the mountain pass a 22 km long descent awaits you finishing in Potes – the center of the Liebana valley where we stay overnight. You can enjoy night street life, taste a traditional mountain stew called ‘Cocido Liebanego’ or have a shot of ‘Orujo’ the famous local liquor of Potes.

DAY 5

Nº 4 – PICOS DE EUROPA N.P.

Distance: 56km | Ascent: 800m | Descent: 2.800m | 70% Mountain Trail

Today you visit the National Park ‘Picos de Europa’. In the morning we drive by van to Fuente Dé and get on a cableway “El Cable” which climbs 753 meters in three minutes. You are now situated in the National park at an altitude of 1.800m.  It is now time to start to ride our bikes. On the way to the first village on this route called Sotres you can take a short break in Refugi Aliva which is situated next to the chalet of The King of Spain. Passing through the beautiful village of Sotres set in the middle of the mountains you´ll do a loop route passing through Bejes and finishing again in Potes.

 DAY 6

Nº 5 – BACK TO THE BEACH

Distance: 50-70km | Ascent: 800-1800m | Descent: 1.300m | Secondary Roads/Mountain trails

There are several posibilities of this last route. You can start cycling up from Potes passing over the mountains. Here you enter the green valley of Rio Nansa where you pass through quiet farming villages until you return to sea level and enter the fishing village of San Vicente de la Barquera – a great place to stop and have a snack in one of the many seafood bars. This option has a hard and light version. The other posibilty is to be transfered by our van directly to the coast where you set on a coastline route cycling mostly on secondary roads. The route is passing along beautiful beaches such as Merón, Gerra or the Nature Reserve of Oyambre beach. You also can make a short stop in the iconic Cantabrian village of Comillas to visit architecture sights such as the ‘El Palacio del Marques de Comillas’ or ‘El Capricho de Gaudí’ designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and another Cantabrian village a live museum of medieval age called Santillana del Mar. We finish in Suances to spend the night in a marvellous Surfhouse. This Surfhouse has six-bed sleeping rooms. If you prefer accommodation in one of our local hotels can be arranged for you (must be advised while booking).

DEPARTURE

The final day is left packing, dismantling bikes and preparing for departure to you respective airports or ferry terminals. We take care of all your transfer requirements on this final day to make your departure is as smooth as possible.
